About Jacques Lafarge

WRITER AND DIRECTOR

Jacques Lafarge first turned to cinema. Driven by the “Nouvelle vague”, his models were called Truffaut, Goretta, Welles, Bresson, Fellini… In 1968, he co-founded the “Prologue” group for which he wrote scripts of short films. One of them, “Les androphages” will be selected at the Ranelagh festival.

At the same time, he pursued scientific studies and, with a Supélec engineering degree, he was in turn a teacher, researcher, organizational consultant and entrepreneur. In 1994, he took over the company Exalog, which he managed until 2014. In 2005, he returned to his first passion by writing Planet for Sale, a play in 5 acts where God plans to sell off the Earth, then, in 2007 Positive Discrimination where a beurette cop speaks only in alexandrines. Then, it is The true story of Lazare Méradec, a futuristic novel, which occupied his long nights as a manager-writer. In 2018, he publishes his second novel : Issasara’s testament.

A PASSION FOR LYRICAL SINGING AND OPERETTA

From the outset, music held an important place in his plays. In Planet for Sale, a choir of angels comment on the situation in song at each intermission. For Positive Discrimination, composer Tsvetan Dobrev wrote a musical theme that returns during intermissions and in a song in the second act. But it was in 2010 that he really fell into operetta, when he had the opportunity to stage La vie parisienne by Jacques Offenbach for Les Brigands du XV°. He therefore returned to the theater in music, with The coach despite himself, operetta written in collaboration with the composer Michael Goldberg. He also wrote and directed recital scenarios, the most played of which is entitled Psychanalyrique.
